Public health can be affected due to the discharge of hazardous substances in the environment. Mining and mineral extraction activities affect the cultural and aesthetic resources. One of the significant factors in social sustainability is time. For technological innovation, time is important. Time allows economic extraction of minerals and metals (Anawar 2015). An example of Broken Hill mining area is considered that allowed zinc extraction after technological advances. Similarly, adequate time must be devoted to enhance social sustainability. It is suggested that social impact analysis is a versatile tool that shall enable decision makers to make informed decisions. Social impact assessment, in practice, should be more closely linked to the extended international perspecti ve and principles (Lbre, Corder and Golev 2017). The community members expect to be employed. Ghana experiences youth unemployment issues in its gold mining areas due to inadequate skills, unwillingness to work and lack of capital. It is recommended that training can be provided to the people as it shall help addressing long-term social sustainability (Essah and Andrews 2016). Holistic Approach to Sustainable Engineering in Mining A hierarchy has been developed that shall help in addressing the future issues related to mining activities. The hierarchy is based on the pyramid reduce, reuse, recycle (3Rs) for reflecting its specificity. The main issue related to mining activities is disposal of waste. It is argued that in the context of resource scarcity it is also about minimising the loss of ores valuable components, the target metals, and minimising the dissemination of contaminants from waste to the surrounding environment. Waste can be prevented by avoiding high grading where a significant part of materials may be left behind. Pre-concentration methods can also help in reducing amount of barren material and enhancing mineral extraction. Also, by-product recovery technique can be used that combines multiple technologies for recovering main minerals and its by-products (Lbre, Corder and Golev 2017). It is argued that waste reprocessing provides same advantages that are observed in waste prevention. It is further added that waste reprocessing may encourage an organization to reprocess its own or another organizations waste. The phytomining technology can be used to enhance the mining sustainability. However, the biggest disadvantage is that the large scale plants and sites tend to be more costly than extracting the minerals and metals. The argument is further supported by some scavenger companies who put forward their technical expertise through magnetation. The process of separating waste through magnet is cost effective but it may not separate the waste completely stuck on the metals. In some gold mines such as Mount Morgan, Australia, unwanted copper-cyanide complexes may form during the mineral processing stage, causing an over-consumption of cyanide and decreased recovery rates for gold and silver (Lbre, Corder and Golev 2017). However, it can be proven beneficial by using highly reactive material. The method is advantageous as it lessens the environmental impact by putting waste to reuse. However, it may discouraged if the process proves to be uneconomic. It is further added that backfilling may be used as another way of downcycling. Another method suggested is backfilling which may not make the waste disappear. The cemented paste backfill can be used as a mix of water, tailings and binder. Another technique is carbon storage which can be a potential option for carbon dioxide emissions mitigation (Lbre, Corder and Golev 2017). Dispose Responsibly The last in the hierarchy is dispose responsibly. The mining waste must be safely disposed if the other alternatives of waste material management have been considered. The techniques such as stockpiling may be considered which a necessary step is prior to waste reprocessing. It may be beneficial as the anticipation for future use can be made. Techniques that may be suitable for permanent disposal do not necessarily represent good stockpiling alternatives. For example, waste treatment and disposal methods that aim at isolating, diluting, encapsulating or neutralising reactive material (e.g. covering methods, co-disposal or surface treatment of minerals) might make the material less accessible and future reprocessing more costly and less efficient (Lbre, Corder and Golev 2017). For instance, one wonders whether the child’s leg is swollen, thus suffering or it is just the wish of the man to leave the kid naked. Therefore, Adam failed in telling the audience the story through the picture thus not capturing the audience’ emotion even though the picture indicates a harsh reality. Secondly, the photograph fails to narrate the event covered. For instance, the photo fails to make the viewer understand the picture appropriately making failing to draw his emotions as per the scene of a man carrying the naked child with a swollen leg (Shelby and Smith, 70). The viewer fails to sympathize with the kid or condemn the man for carrying the naked child aimlessly. Third, Adam’s photo is not composed since it lacks some techniques in mind. For instance, the classic rule suppose the photo to be broken into three distinct equal parts. The picture contrasts this rule since the sky does not take even two thirds of its frame while the land takes less than a third. Instead, these elected representatives are controlled by political à ©lites: high-ranking political "gladiators", the media, lobbyists, and, though it may not seem evident, big business. It is, in essence, commonly believed by most. Some reasons why political à ©lites at times dominate government and who these groups are will be examined in this essay. Also, there will be an analysis of those who were political à ©lites in Canada over the past centuries. Also, some new discoveries may be turned up that help us have a better understanding of this elitism. Finally, we will discuss if interest groups and mino rities have real political power, or perhaps they are just given token compensation. Hopefully, by the end of this essay, there will be a better understanding of who really has political power in Canada. But there is something called feeling of attachment.There is an attachment towards his or her native place. One cannot forget his or her childhood days or their neighbours and the love between them. Emotions are not allowed in a city or the town. Today since all the places are becoming industrialized there is no space for emotions but only profit. And because of this all the people are running after them. There is a great effect on especially the country. Since all the citizens are settled in abroad and the income they earn is of no use to the country, the country’s economic status lowers as compared to other countries.The newer generation is no longer staying in their native country specially India. India is full of corruption, they say. But it is not so. If the abroad based thinkers try, the situation can be changed. The major disadvantage of moving to a new city is the loss of attach ment to the native place and their neighbours. From birth we are attached to our villages or town, its nature, its culture and its people. But as we move to a new area, far from ours, we cannot accept its culture and people very easily. We cannot adjust there due to our unforgettable habits with our ulture. As we move to a new city, we have to accept the people, the culture, and their behaviors and accordingly we have to adjust. But it is not so easy. Since the people are keenly interested in earning money and luxurious life they are ready to do anything for this. According to me, I can’t accept the concept of moving to a new place permanently. Because it affects our native place or country. Earlier during the British rule all the intelligent brains of India were sent out to England or the other countries out of India.So that the foreign countries would progress better in terms of technology. If someone was to get hit and killed by one the money to help the family would once again come from the boats account. Oedipus Rex pgs. 159 – 198 a. Characters The major characters are Oedipus, Creon, and Tiresias. Oedipus, the king of Thebes, is completely stubborn. He doesn't want to listen to Creon or Tiresias about the truth of who he is. Creon, Oedipus's brother-in-law, is businesslike. When he brings the news from the oracle, he suggests that they should go into a more private place to talk. He also makes a lot of deals to reason with Oedipus's rage towards him. Tiresias, the blind prophet, is secretive. He doesn't tell Oedipus his knowledge at first, keeping the truth away from Oedipus. . Events The first event is when Oedipus and the priest are talking. I think this event is included because it signifies how much the city relies on Oedipus. Since he stopped the plague once, they believe he can stop it again, which shows their faith in their king. When Tiresias is trying to tell Oedipus that he is the cause of the plague, Oedipus snaps back, not believing a single word. I think this sho ws that Oedipus really doesn't know how his past connects to the present problems. Also, we get a better insight on Oedipus as a person. . COG Blindness is a big idea throughout the reading. Tiresias is literally blind in his eyes, which allows him to â€Å"feel all the more what sickness haunts [their] city,† (l. 342 – 343). Inference: Oedipus doesn't make any connection between him saving the city and the story that Creon tells. To save Thebes, Oedipus solved the Sphinx's riddle and in Creon's story, the Sphinx was the one who told them to forget about the mystery of the death of the king. Oedipus tells Creon that this killer â€Å"may decide to kill [him] too,† (158). This proves that Oedipus has no idea that he is involved in the mystery.

Digital Camera

Technology within the last fifty years has evolved drastically because of the introduction of computers. This technology remains changing, mostly for the better as a multitude of public and private corporations do their research and development to elevate mankind’s way of life into another level of advancement. One most notable change in the people’s everyday lives is the evolution of photography.From bulky cameras, film and hour-long photo development came the instant, flashy, sleek and compact digital cameras that can take photographs and can store them instantly electronically. This paper provides a critique of Thom Hogan’s (2009) article, â€Å"How Digital Cameras Work. † Catching moments and having a souvenir for it are the main points of why people take a photo. People can be sentimental and so, a camera is a gadget that almost every household have. However, there are so many people out there who do not have the zest and passion for photography and t he science behind it.Majority of users do not understand their digital cameras and the author, Thom Hogan, wrote the article to help these millions of people to get to know how a digital camera works and it is often not wise to rely on the adverts or express warranty a manufacturer claims, as more often than not, those claims are not true, scientifically speaking. The opening notes of the article says this much and this is a catchy enough way to get attention of even uninterested users.The main concern about the article, is that, even though it is written for people without photography background, the terminologies used seem to be strictly for photographers. For instance, a lot of average users of digital cameras do not know the difference between 28mm vs. a 35mm cameras and the author used the â€Å"35 mm† term as though everyone would understand what it means. The author could have set up a terminologies page to help the average users understand the article better. That bei ng said, this paper shall now discuss the rest of the article.The author tackled first the functions of a camera’s sensor. This is of course the silicon chip on a digital camera which has two kinds: CCD and CMOS. CCD and CMOS are explained by author in the next part which is a smart move considering that this article can be used for basic digital photography and some technical terms must be already infused. CCD, according to the author, is an old technology while CMOS is the sensor of today and this sensor shall be the one referred to for the rest of the paper.The author mentioned one brand that designed a good CMOS sensor and that brand is Nikon. Such mention of brand can raise eyebrows as one would think whether this particular author has been paid by Nikon to advertise the brand’s sensors on a variety of users, after all, who is better to trust than an expert in photography? Next, the author mentioned photosites within the sensors. Photo diodes are the light sensing portion of photosites and they cannot cover the entire sensor as there are â€Å"non-light responsive spaces between diodes†.This statement by the author can be considered a fair warning to digital camera users. As early as this stage, they know about the limitations of digital photography, that not all sensors are good at sensing light, which is essential in taking photographs. Again, the author endorsed Nikon and Fujifilm cameras as exception to the sensor rule. He described how certain Nikon and Fujifilm sensors (actually named camera models) have overcome this limitation in digital photography. The author proceeded to describe light and sensors the way a physicist would.This is again more confusing to the average reader or even photography novices. Next, the author mentioned that a camera sees in black and white and he described how cameras produce colours in different ways. The different ways the author described are wonderful insights into photography and it can get us ers more valuable information on how they would like to use their camera sensors. More people tend to prefer photographs with vivid colour. Lastly, the author described how to get data from the sensor of a camera.Essentially, he told users the more manipulations done to a camera, the more the image gets further from its original form (adjustment of colour, brightness and even simple JPEG conversion). This is another essential information as some user prefer realistic images over bright colours. Overall, the article is highfaluting one, especially for normal, average user with no inkling for photography but it provides valuable information to those with photography background and would like to know more about the art.
